Songs Of The Week!

Yeahhh, I've missed that many days... Oh well, these are the songs I've been listening to this week!

This first one is a wicked little dancey tune and the video makes you crave summer and better times... I wonder how they found that many quirky/beautiful people and managed to get them all together in various hot tubs/festivals? It nicely feeds my appetite for shallow, aesthetically pleasing visuals.

This next song is a WIN for South Africa. An amazing fusion of club and jazz, the result is a very cool and chilled mix that would go well on a playlist with the Klangkarussell song above.

Moving on in the same sort of tact, this next one is a garage anthem that many of you will know and love... Unfortunately, being typically late off the mark, I've only just discovered this gem. I especially love the lyrics, 'Everybody felt the tension, time was fading'.

Now this one I've loved for ages, Disclosure is so reliable, I haven't yet listened to a song by them that I haven't enjoyed immensely.

Many of you will know Jamie Jones because of his remix of Azari & Ill's 'Hungry For The Power'. This is another one of his house tunes, a bit of a background one but get to 2:30 and you'll be grooving.

Okay well I think I'm up to date now with all the days that I missed, I will (hopefully) be back tomorrow with Song Of The Dayyyyyyy! #buzzbuz

Song Of The Day!

Another classical one for y'all. I was introduced to this by my sister, Kirsten Jenson, who is an amazing cellist and who I would LOVE to hear play this. It's the first of a set of two pieces for the cello, written by Sibelius, probably one of the best (and only... not really not really) things to come out of Finland. The swell at 1:34 is my favourite part of the piece - Absolutely gorgeous. If you fancy it, listen to his Symphony no. 2 as well, I was lucky enough to play it last summer with the NCSO (New Cambridge Symphony Orchestra) this summer and it WONDROUS.

My sister Kirsten - She's very beautiful!

Song Of The Day!

Firstly, I'd like to say a quick word about my late iPod, Biscuit. He served me well for five long years and I remember it well, the day when I first received him on my 15th birthday. He was my BEST present and everyone was jealous because he was all new and shiny. As his life wore on he became a little more scuffed from lovingly frequent use and his keys began to sporadically break. It was very annoying. But he held on until I came into the kitchen this morning to find him having tragically drowned in a little puddle on the table. I stumbled towards him and fished his lifeless body out of the water, hurriedly drying him and checking for vital signs. No response.

This song is one of the chosen few that had been on Biscuit from that very first sync. The title album from the first and best Sugababes album, I'd like to dedicate it to his memory. Biscuit will, alongside Dilla, Aaliyah and 'Pac, Rest In Beats:

Mum, I found a guy that I really want.
I know you say I'm young
But he don't wanna hurt me.
Never has to try, special kind of guy.
I get these funny feelings
Whenever he's around me.

One touch of love,
That was only to my dear
And i'm never gonna let you go away now.

Call him what you want,
Call him what you like,
He's always there for me
Whenever I feel lonely.
Don't know what I'll say,
Don't know what I'll do,
'Cause if you change your mind
Then I'll go crazy, yeah.

One touch of love,
It was only to my dear
And I'm never gonna let you go away now.
So much, so much,
So much I wanna have you near
And I'm never gonna let you go away now.

Anytime my friends hang out with me,
I can't wait to be with you again, no.
And everytime you call my telephone
It's clear to me
That I can't let you go,
Never let go,
I can't let you go,
Never let you go.

That I can't let you go,
Never let you go,
I can't let you go,
Never let you go.

One touch of love,
It was only to my dear
And I'm never gonna let you go away now.
So much, so much,
So much I wanna have you near
And I'm never gonna let you go away now.

One touch of love,
It was only to my dear (you took me, dear)
And I'm never gonna let you go away now.
So much, so much,
So much I wanna have you near (wanna have you near)
And I'm never gonna let you go away now.

One touch of love,
Never gonna let you go away,
Never gonna let you go away now.
So much, so much,
Never gonna let you go away,
Never gonna let you go away now.
One touch of love,
Never gonna let you go away,
Never gonna let you go away now.

Song Of The Day!

Well, technically it's the song of yesterday... But I'm only an hour late so it's sort of okay.
Like so many of the artists I love, I first heard Hollie Cook on Jools Holland in November of last year and ever since she's had a place on my iPod. The BBC called her 2011 album, which was produced by Prince Fatty, one of the most enjoyable reggae albums of the year and Milk & Honey is a prime tune to kick back to. For something born in London, it sounds like it belongs somewhere much more exotic...

Every day in the morning paper you
Look at the news of the world economic pages.
It's time to laugh all alone in your room,
If only you could shine through the darkness, Yeah.
Hey
And the day and the night, you dine out
So far, the reason you feel lonely.
Hey
You should try,
You should try,
The milk and the rice
With just a bit of honey.

Every day in the evening pay per view
You see the boys and the girls,
They wanna be famous.
They talk and laugh,
You don't care for the rules.
You know that nothing
Ever really changes, yeah.

Hey
And the day and the night you dine out
So far, the reason you feel lonely.
Hey
You should try,
You should try,
The milk and the rice
With just a bit of honey.
